Revision as of 17:07, 15 February 2008

This article is currently untidy, lacks coherency or structure, or suffers from numerous spelling and grammar errors.
It needs to be cleaned up to a higher standard of quality.

This article describes partner machines as known in Network Mode. For information more specific to Story and Extra Modes, see partner machines (offline).

Description

Partner machines, often abbreviated as PMs, are pet robots, and can be found in the player's room. In Network Mode, players are able to choose and change their PM's names.

PMs have several functions, including:

Statistics

Stat Name Effect
Striking Used in synthesizing Striking weapons.
Ranged Used in synthesizing Ranged weapons.
TECH Used in synthesizing TECHNIC weapons.
Armor Used in synthesizing line shields.
Production Level The sum of the four stats above, caps at 100.
PM evolution occurs as this rises.
Battle Stat (B St.) A PM's efficiency in combat, caps at 200.
A requirement for EX Evolution Devices.

B St.

B St. is raised through the completion of missions with the partner machine in the team. The mission's length and difficulty do not matter - the only determining factor is the rank achieved at the end of the mission:

Completion Rank  % of a B St. level raised
S 24%
A ~15%
B ~10%
C ~5%

Production Level and components

Striking, Ranged, TECH and Armor are raised through the use of the "Give Item" function available by speaking to your partner machine. This process of feeding (called that due to the PM commenting how the item tasted) is subject to some simple constraints:

  • If you feed a PM one item, its "fed" count raises by 1.
  • Once a PM's "fed" count reaches 100 it becomes "full" and cannot be fed.
  • If a PM has not been fed for 12 hours ("full" or not), its "fed" count resets to 0.

Partner machines will not accept Synthesis boards, Grinders or Presents.

When the Production Level reaches a designated point, the PM will "evolve" into a new form that varies according to the individual statistics that contribute to the Production Level. These distinct PM evolutions will be proficient at certain forms of item synthesis: Striking, Ranged or TECHNIC weapons, and these given specializations will receive an increase in the success rate of that type of synthesis. No partner machine model can specialize in the production of line shields.

The item PM Device ZERO is used to reset a partner machine: All of its statistics regress to 0 and it reverts to the model GH 101. However, items held in its storage, inserted synthesis boards and any item synthesis that has yet to complete will remain untouched.

Partner machines in combat

When PMs evolve to their fourth stage, they will become usable in battle and will grant their owner their own Partner Card, allowing them to be added to the party as with regular NPCs.

Battle-usable evolutions have associated combat behaviour and equipment. Not much is known about their combat stats, other than that they are dependent on the PM's model, B St., and level. Their level is 10 higher than their owner at time of being added to the party. A partner machines' Production Level and its components (Striking, Ranged, TECH, Armor) do not have any effect in battle.

As with all NPCs, only a party leader can call their battle-usable partner machines into a party. Similarly, the PM is capable of taking damage, being incapacitated and getting up. They affect experience gain in combat in the same way ordinary players and NPCs do. When in a party, PMs have the Photon Fortune of a female CAST.

Fourth-Stage Alternate PMs

There are currently 30 PM evolutions linked to partner machine upgrade devices. For example, using a PM Device GH411 on a GH 410 will evolve the PM into the corresponding evolution. Details about GH 305~7 and GH 461~5 are still unclear. To evolve, just simply feed the item to your PM. There are some restrictions, however. A PM cannot evolve out of its model line, say from a 430 to a 451. It must also be at the required level, so skipping to a 4xx early is out of the question. You can, however, move freely within a model line. For example, say a player changes their 410 to a 412, but doesn't like it for some reason. Provided they're willing to shell out 50k each for the items, they can change it within the 41x line as much as they want.
