GHX-005, also known as 'Pete'.
Red: Online specific information.
Blue: Offline specific information.

Description

Partner Machineries, or PMs for short, are floating pet robots, and can be found in the player's room. In Story Mode, Ethan's PM is called 'Pete', but in Extra Mode and Network Mode players are able to choose and change their PM's names. A PM's Photon Fortune is equal to that of Female CAST characters.

PMs have several functions, including:

  • Item Storage (~300 items).
  • Item synthesis.
  • Engaging in combat as an NPC (fourth-stage only).
  • Providing plot information and hints (Story Mode).
  • Shopkeeper (Online).

PMs have specific attributes, as well:

  • Striking - indicates the proficiency in synthesizing Striking weapons.
  • Ranged - indicates the proficiency in synthesizing Ranged weapons.
  • Technic - indicates the proficiency in synthesizing Technic weapons.
  • Armor - indicates the proficiency in synthesizing Line Shields.
  • Production Level (max. 100) - the sum of the four attributes above; PM evolution occurs as the Production Level rises.
  • Battle Stat (B St.) or Combat Level (max. 100) - dictates a PM's efficiency in combat (presumably only AI and stats?); the increments for its EXP bar increase upon Mission completion, depending only on the overall resultant rank.
  • S rank: about 25% (from 0% into a level, four S Ranks are not enough for one level. It's probably 24%.)
  • A rank: about 15%
  • B rank: about 10%
  • C rank: about 5%

To increase those first four attributes, PMs can be fed items, via the "Give item" submenu of Partner Machinery Functions. PM Feeding (called that due to the PM commenting how the item tasted) is subject to some simple constraints:

  • If you feed a PM one item, its "fed" count raises by 1.
  • Once a PM's "fed" count reaches 100 it becomes "full" and you cannot feed it any more.
  • If a PM has not been fed for 12 hours ("full" or not), its "fed" count gets reset to 0.

Partner Machinery will refuse to eat Synthesis boards, Grinders and Presents. When the Production Level reaches a designated point, the PM will "evolve" into a new form that varies according to the individual attributes that contribute to the Production Level. These distinct PM evolutions each specialize either in Striking, Range or Technic; there are none that specialize in Armor. Battle-usable evolutions have associated combat behaviour and equipment. Not much is known about their combat stats, other than that they are dependent on the PM's form and Combat Level.

Only the leader of a party may summon his or her battle-usable PM to combat. The PM is capable of taking damage and dying like any ordinary player. However, a PM's death count no longer contributes to decreased Mission scores. PMs affect experience gain in combat in the same way ordinary players do. Battle-usable PM's have the luck score of a female CAST.

The item PM Device ZERO is used to reset each of the PM's stats to zero. Although the PM will reset its level and any advanced form will be lost, the storage remains unaffected.

Fourth-Stage PMs

When PMs evolve to their fourth stage, they will become usable in battle and will grant their owner their own Partner Card to call upon them at anytime. In any party only the PM of the leader may participate. Like NPCs, PMs will automatically revive in a minute, with their deaths not affecting mission results. In battle, a PM is ten levels higher than their owner was when the PM was brought into the party. As this increases, they will become more powerful like regular characters would. A PM's Production Level and Striking, Ranged, TECH and Armor stats do not have any influence on this.

Combat behaviour

Calculating
*Based on the GH-440, the PM will 'take aim' at a target and attack after a short delay. It is
unclear whether this 'aiming' increases accuracy or not, or whether the time taken is reduced
 as the PM levels.
Cover fire
*Usually stays with owner, but heals itself.

~Thanks to Lunezda for adding this data on the GH-442.

Front lines
*Based on the GH-422, the PM will remain by the owners side until enemies approach, however once
in striking range the PM will continue to fight until all enemys within its range are destroyed.
Independent
*According to my experiences with a GH-420, The PM will run off on its own if an enemy is within
its sight range. It will also attack enemies if the enemy attacks her..

~Thanks to Lunatari (Xbox 360) and Mia (Xbox 360) for spotting this out with there GH-420 (Rabbit! and -) ^_^

Support
*According to my experience with a GH-450, It will support the party by casting Jellen numerous
times. It will also cast resta for the master unlike other NPC.

~Thanks to Tahldon (Xbox 360) for letting me view his GH-450 (Hina Ichigo) ^_^

With group
*According to my experiences with a GH-430, "with group" means it fights the same monster as you
do (mainly you can just hit the monster once and it will chase after it) and or your alternate
NPC (2nd NPC if added)
Near owner
*According to my experiences with a GH-410, the PM will stay by your side until a enemy is within
its striking distance. Great for shielding because if the enemy approaches you, your PM will
 fight it.

~Thanks to Zerdo4 (Xbox 360) for letting me view his GH-410 (Zerda2) ^_^

Fourth-Stage Alternate PMs

There are currently 18 PM evolutions, linked to 'PM Evolution Devices'. For example, using a 'PM 411 Device' on a GH410 will evolve the PM into the corresponding evolution. Details about GH305~7 and GH461~5 are still unclear. To evolve, just simply feed the item to your PM. There are some restrictions, however. A PM cannot evolve out of its model line, say from a 430 to a 451. It must also be at the required level, so skipping to a 4xx early is out of the question. You can, however, move freely within a model line. For example, say a player changes their 410 to a 412, but doesn't like it for some reason. Provided they're willing to shell out 50k each for the items, they can change it within the 41x line as much as they want.

Both the JP and US/EU versions of the game has the Partner Machine Evolution Kits available. But only for the 4x1 (411,421,431,441,451), 4x2 (412,422,432,442,452), 4x3, and 4x4 types. No information on the 46x types yet.

The New PMs change in appearance and weapon, some featuring S rank weapons as well! Great for those with an acquired taste for expensive items; others will just get plain jealous.

The 4x2 series of PMs(412,422,432,442,452) actually carry SUV weapons! Each one features an extra slot, but only certain few will get the SUV, while the 4x1 series(411,421,431,441,451), for example, will get HP regeneration (Me/HP Restore).

(Note the PM 444 also has a SUV regardless of not being part of the 4x2 series obviously. I know this from personel experience as I have seen PM 444 use an SUV. So there may be other exptions as well.)

UPDATE: It seems that the 4x4 types also have an SUV weapon; well, the 414 and 444 types do for sure. Don't know about the 424, 434, and 454. Also, the Sandbox has an incomplete stats table for the alternate PMs.
