This page is intended to list rumors and other unclear and often-debated bits on information about Phantasy Star Universe.
Contents
Black Nanoblast
Rumor: A popular rumor that states that at some point, the game will be updated with a new black nanoblast, often credited with dual-wielding axes (and sometimes jokingly taken to the extreme that it can perform Chikki Kyoren-jin as well).
Truth: There's nothing to suggest that any new nanoblasts will be added - there are certainly no new ones on the Japanese PC/PS2 servers. Sonic Team instead rebalance the existing nanoblasts.
Cheating the Casino
Rumor: That there are ways to (nearly) always win at the Casino.
Truth: No truth to it without cheating. People have been known to try and sell information about this - it's a scam.
Failing guaranteed grinds
Rumor: That a grind whose chance of success is given as 'There is no chance of failure' can fail and break the weapon.
Truth: Actually true, as the success rate of a 'guaranteed' grind is believed to vary between 95% and 100%. The message stating that there is no chance of failure is sometimes attributed as a mistranslation.
Game becoming free to play
Rumor: Stemming mostly from the Xbox360 demo, this rumor suggests that the (full) game will eventually drop the monthly subscription fee and become free to play.
Truth: Has been flatly denied on several occasions by Sega representatives. Even with GUARDIANS Cash, the Japanese PC/PS2 servers still have a monthly subscription.
Photon Fortune
Rumor: That Photon Fortune influences more than just grinding odds and the chance of an enemy or box dropping any item at all - usually these are theories about luck boosting the quality of drops as well (more rare drops, higher level material drops etc.).
Truth: Unknown - there isn't enough evidence to prove anything other than what we know about grinding rates and the drop-anything rate (which comes from the Perfect Bible guides and can reliably be taken as fact).
PM foods and synthesis attribute rates
Rumor: Feeding your PM certain items will give items you then synth a higher attribute %. For example, feeding a PM Tear of Light would boost any weapons or line shields synthed with a light attribute, and Dogma Drop would boost those synthed with a dark attribute.
Truth: There's no evidence to suggest this is true.
Room decorations and item drop rates
Rumor: This rumor did the rounds before the release of AOTI. It suggested that the rarity of room decorations placed on the colored squares in players' rooms would affect item drop rates.
Truth: Denied by Sega representatives, and died for the most part when AOTI was released as AOTI rooms allow free placement of room decorations and do not use the colored squares.
Synthesis success rates displayed are wrong
Rumor: That when synthing an item, the % rate of success given is incorrect or misleading.
Truth: Would require a large amount of testing to produce a reliable sample on which to base a conclusion, and to date there has been none. Remains inconclusive, but is far from being fact.
