When selected however, they take up your currently wielded weapon.  The primary attack button is used to plant traps. Both G and EX traps remain indefinitely until detonated via the secondary attack button.  Multiple G traps may be planted in which case using the detonator causes all set traps to explode simultaneously. Changing weaponry while traps are still out in play cause all active traps to be removed from the board without detonation, resulting in a lost trap. G traps are also capable of affecting multiple hit boxes on large monsters simultaneously, resulting in larger damage in such situations. Traps always hit if a target is caught within the area of effect, if the trap has a status effect tied to it, it will deliver it unerringly unless the enemy is completely immune. PMs start with 300 inventory slots. Each [[Nanotranser X]] adds 50 extra inventory slots to your PM. Up to four devices can be used, thus increasing your PM's storage by 200 items.
 
 
 
Partner Machines or PMs for short are robots created by and for the GUARDIANs for items storage, information reference, and aid in combat. In the [[Phantasy Star Portable]] version, PMs are no longer created via feeding but rather selected at the beginning of character creation. They can also be bought, though the player is only allowed one PM at a time. Inputting a new PM will replace the old one (while retaining the name). They also no longer synthesize items since the feature was removed. The primary function of a PM outside o item storage is combat assistance.

Upon character creation, PMs will grant their owner their own [[PSP:Partner Card|Partner Card]], allowing them to be added to the party as [[PSP:Partner Characters]|Partner Characters].
 
 
PMs have combat behavior and equipment based on each model. See each partner machine's article for more specific information. A partner machines' production level and its components (Striking, Ranged, TECH, Armor) do not have any effect in battle. Their character level is 10 higher than their owner's.
 
 
As with all partner characters, only a party leader can call their partner machines into a party. Similarly, the PM is capable of taking damage, being incapacitated and self-reviving. They affect combat in the same way ordinary partner characters do.
